Tyfo™  Secondary Refrigerants

The supply of quality secondary refrigerants is only the tip of the iceberg, as far as our support and technical services are concerned.  From the initial design of a system, throughout it's operational lifetime, and even during decommissioning, EPS has products and services to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Our key areas of technical support and maintenance issues are explained below, along with an introductory brochure.

Design

Throughout the design process of a new cooling system EPS can offer advice on sizing and layout of the cooling circuit, material construction, component specification and supply, fluid specification, and intended operational parameters.
Installation and Commissioning EPS can help ensure that the system is in optimum condition before operation commences by supplying a wide range of cleaning solutions that remove grease and dirt and effectively loosen swarf or corrosion debris from pipework prior to charging with secondary refrigerant.  If required, passivating solutions can be used to provide protection to metal surfaces.

These services can also be used after draining an existing circuit, prior to refilling with fresh coolant.

Fluid Treatment Corrosion protection is vitally important in the long term operation of a secondary cooling system.  Unfortunately some installations still use fluids that have no corrosion protection or are inadequately protected.  EPS can assess the performance of an existing fluid by performing an internationally recognised ASTM corrosion test and advise a custom-built corrosion inhibitor package based on the test results.  We can also provide general concentrated corrosion inhibitor solutions to add to existing cooling systems

We supply a wide range of food-safe dyes to add to coolants to ease identification of leaks, etc.  The dyes are produced in an ultra-concentrated liquid form to simplify the addition process.  They are available in a number of standard colours, or can be formulated to match your colour requirements and are made up in either water or the secondary refrigerant of your choice.

In chilled water systems, microbial contamination may be a problem, especially in dormant or stagnant legs of the system. EPS can provide long-lasting biocides to pretreat water circuits, thereby preventing microbial growth, and also fast-acting biocides to kill existing growth where contamination has occurred.  Many of these products are acceptable for use in systems involved in indirect contact with foodstuffs.

The use of some fluids, especially when combined with air entrainment, can result in foaming which can significantly reduce pump performance and heat transfer efficiency.  We supply both antifoamers to prevent foaming occurring, and defoamers to quickly knock down existing foams.

Maintenance It is always a good idea to regularly check the condition of a secondary refrigerant to ensure that it is in good operating condition.  As well as offering full analytical testing services, EPS can supply a range of test kits for the end user to monitor the condition of the fluid on-site.
Disposal As pollution regulations become ever stricter, the disposal of the fluid must be done responsibly.  We offer to dispose of waste or contaminated fluid in an accredited manner at a licensed site.  Depending on the volume involved, and the customers preference, we can provide road tankers or holding vessels to discharge the waste fluid into on site and then take it away for safe disposal.
